One interpretation of the 2008 presidential election is that the US is way more sexist than racist. If the media coverage (and the result) doesn’t convince you of this, reflect on the fact that last March Charlotte Allen wrote a long rambling apologia for the idea that women are, well, not too bright. If she had, let’s just imagine, done the same riff on how black people are natural athletes, Mexicans make excellent domestics, or how Jews have a natural aptitude for banking, you think the Washington Post would have been so eager to print it?  Aside from all that, she’d just be an asshat for suggesting that women must be the dimmer sex because they read romance novels. . .  Yeah, Girls Gone Wild is so enlightening by comparison.
